The Trustee of the Year Award

The Trustee of the Year Award is awarded each year at the annual CMSF Conference. It is designed to encourage “best practice” in the work undertaken by trustees and to highlight the importance of the role trustees play in the superannuation system in Australia.

A judging panel, which includes representatives of CMSF, AIST, industry, corporate and public sector funds, reviews the nominations and selects the Trustee of the Year from these nominations.

The criteria for selecting the Trustee of the Year is as follows:

• Diligent contribution to all aspects of fund business
• Open and accountable dialogue with fund members
• A respect, appreciation and commitment toward acting as a fiduciary
• Commitment to improving superannuation as a long term savings vehicle
• An understanding of fund rules, the superannuation system and investment matters

The Winner of the Trustee of the Year Award 2005 is John Taplin, Member Elected Director of ESSS

John Taplin is a MICA Paramedic with the Metropolitan Ambulance Service and is a member of the Ambulance Employees Association.

• John has been an ESSS Board Member since January 1991.
• John is Member Elected and his current term expires in December 2007
• John is the Chair of the Audit Committee of ESSS
• John is a Director – (elected by the Public Sector Members) – of The Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees
