the swedish perspective on choice

Choice isn't unique to the Australian retirement income system. We have all heard the horror stories that have come out of the introduction of choice in both the UK and Chile .

Sweden also introduced some choice into its retirement income system in 2000, and in June 2004 set up an inquiry into whether the information provided to pension savers was good enough, whether the costs were reasonable and whether there are ways to make it easier for pension savers to make their choices.

What can we learn from others' experiences?

MUST WE GO “OFFSHORE” MORE ?

The case for international investment is well-established and Australian superannuation funds have embraced the opportunities existing in offshore markets.   There is a view in some quarters that the compulsory superannuation regime which exists in this country means that our funds are quickly outgrowing the domestic market and that they MUST , therefore, allocate an increasing proportion of assets offshore.    In this session we take a look at the evidence on the demand for and supply of investable funds in Australia , drawing on comparisons with key overseas countries, so as to assess the extent to which such pressures are real and/or immediate.
