CMSF 2006 Overview
Welcome
to CMSF 06
Over
the past twelve to twenty-four months, the industry
has been through constant change. There has been FSRA,
Choice, Licensing, fund amalgamations and fund closures;
just to name a few. 2006 will bring more change, with
the expected number of super funds to decrease from
2500 to 350. Arguably some of these changes have been
good for the industry, but have some things gone too
far? And what about members and employers? How are
they dealing with the changing landscape and what does
all this change mean for them? What is the right balance
and how do we strike it?
Not surprising
then our theme for CMSF 06 is "Striking
the Balance"
We
are pleased to have amongst our keynote speakers, William
Greider, the National Affairs Correspondent
for The Nation, America’s oldest political weekly. Heidi
Miller,
Executive Vice President and head of JPMorgan Chase Treasury & Securities
Services (TSS) who will share with us her experiences
of industry consolidation and what makes a successful
merger and Dr Graeme Pearman, an International
expert on climate change. We will also be launching the
results of UniSuper’s research project which
examines the impact of financial education on retirement
goals and savings.
At
CMSF 06 the winners of the Excellence Awards for Communication
and the winner of the Trustee Award will each receive
a scholarship to attend CMSF’s Inaugural Global
Dialogue to be held over six days in the United States
from 11 – 19 July 2006, commencing in Chicago and
concluding in New York. The Dialogue will address Retirement
Income Provision Over the Next Decade – the challenges,
the pitfalls and the opportunities for trustees and their
service providers.
Gold
Coast Destination Management has been engaged to provide
a range of accommodation venues in close proximity to
the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and have
also secured group flights for CMSF 06. For further information
about flights and accommodation refer to the Flights & Accommodation
page of this website.
CMSF
is extending its program in 2006 to conclude with a formal
lunch and guest speaker.
CMSF continues its tradition to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. For all you golf enthusiasts, Peter Gebert, Operations Manager - Cbus superannuation, is organising a morning game on Monday 10 April (prior to the start of the conference) to raise funds for both organisations; and don't forget all the fabulous prizes you can win at the annual fundraising raffle at the conference gala dinner on Tuesday 11 April.
We
look forward to seeing you at the 16th Annual Conference
of Major Superannuation Funds being held at the Gold
Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Broadbeach, Queensland
from Monday 10 to Wednesday 12 April 2006. A
reminder Friday 14th April is Good Friday so please
make your flight and accommodation arrangements early.

Certificate
of Attainment
CMSF
is an important annual education forum in the superannuation
industry and many trustees and fund staff use the
event as part of their ongoing professional development
and education program. With increased regulation
in this area, documentary evidence of ongoing training
is crucial.
The
Certificate of Attainment (CofA) will provide evidence
that ongoing training has been undertaken. The
CofA will count for 10 Continuing Professional Development
(CPD) points for
AIST’s Member Accreditation Program. Participation
is not compulsory.
If
you do wish to participate, please offer your bar-coded
nametag to the CMSF staff for scanning at the commencement
of conference sessions.
